Larry “Joe” Moorehead, age 83, of Batavia passed away on Wednesday morning, January 21, 2026 at Clermont Mercy Hospital.
Joe was born July 24, 1942 in Bethel, Ohio, son of George R. and Frances A. (Minter) Moorehead. On March 27, 1971 he was married to Gayle (Nakari) Moorehead.
Joe began working with the Amelia Dairy delivering milk, but retired from Alvan Freight as a truck driver after many years of service. He was a dedicated member of the Teamsters Local 100 where he served as the union steward. Joe was also a member of the Hamer Masonic Lodge #228 in Owensville. He enjoyed spending his summers in Minnesota at the cabin on Grand Lake with Gayle and their extended family. He loved taking the grandchildren out on the pontoon boat and teaching them how to fish, mow the grass, and drive a stick shift (manual) in Frank’s old truck. Joe was a devoted fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals. During each season, you were bound to see him proudly wearing a t-shirt to cheer them on. Joe was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and the best storyteller who ever lived.
Surviving are his wife, Gayle Moorehead; 5 children: Lori (Moorehead) Cook of Cincinnati, Kaye (Moorehead) Vickery of Cincinnati, Kim (David) Beard of Batavia, Lisa Moorehead of Batavia, Joey (Melody) Moorehead of Batavia; 13 grandchildren: Ryan (Marissa), Brandon, Dylan, Jared, Maddie, Will, Angel, Brandon, Alesha, Tiffany, Josh, Joey (Alyssa), and Hunter; 14 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, extended northern family and special friends: the Antonsons and Kriskes of Minnesota and the Holmbergs of Batavia.
