Gayle Moorehead, age 79, of Batavia, Ohio, passed away on Sunday morning, May 17, 2026 at Batavia Nursing Care Center surrounded by her family.

She was born August 6, 1946 in Virginia, Minnesota, daughter of the late Arvo Orpo Nakari and Violet Lillian (Salminen) Nakari. On March 27, 1971 she was united into marriage to Larry "Joe" Moorehead for 54 years, who passed away on January 21, 2026.


Gayle retired from Clermont Metropolitan Housing authority in Batavia with over 20 years of dedicated service. She was a devoted woman to her family, especially her grandchildren, some of which affectionately called her "Peeka”. Her children and grandchildren all loved her famous "Finlander" pancakes. All that knew her would tell you that she was the sweetest person to everyone. She enjoyed spending her summers in Minnesota at the cabin on Grand Lake with family and friends. You could find her and her husband Joe cheering on the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals every season. Gayle loved shopping and going to yard sales with her daughter Kim, sister Pat, and niece Debi. She also had an artistic side. Gayle loved painting and taking family photos. Her paintings will always be treasured, and her photographs never failed to capture the moment.


Surviving are 5 children: Kim (David) Beard of Batavia, Joey (Melody) Moorehead of Batavia, Lori (Moorehead) Cook of Cincinnati, Kaye (Moorehead) Vickery of Cincinnati,, Lisa Moorehead of Batavia, 13 grandchildren: Ryan (Marissa), Brandon, Dylan, Jared, Maddie, Will, Angel, Brandon, Alesha, Tiffany, Josh, Joey (Alyssa), and Hunter; 14 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, extended northern family and special friends: the Antonsons and Kriskes of Minnesota and the Holmbergs of Batavia.


Gayle’s surviving siblings include Pat (Bill - deceased) Willis of Duluth, MN; Rodney (Mary Lou) Halunen of Virgina, MN; Dan Nakari of Long Beach, CA.

In addition to her parents, Gayle was preceded in death by her siblings: Hartley (Lois) Halunen, Donald (Joann) Halunen.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
