NICHOLS Elaine Claire Marie (nee Kamphaus) Elaine, a nearly lifetime resident of the Williamsburg area, passed away peacefully on Thursday, the 25th of August, at Forest Hills Care Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, surrounded by her family. She was 87 years old. Elaine was born on September 18, 1928 in Price Hill, Ohio to Walter and Clara Kamphaus. They were second generation German Americans. Elaine was one of three siblings (Brother, Don and Sister, Betty). In Price Hill, she attended Seton High School and was known as “Kampy”. She was on Student Council and played basketball all four years, with her main interest being art. After graduation she attended Central Ohio Art Academy. Elaine married her husband, Benjamin Nichols, on October 18, 1946 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in St. Petersburg, Florida. They moved to Afton in 1963 and raised their four children. She later took a job at the Community Press and worked there for 30+ years until she retired in May of 2016. Elaine loved good food, especially sweets, socializing, playing golf at White Oak and spending time with her family. Being a mother and a grandmother became her life’s work and she will forever hold a special place in her family’s hearts. She was an industrious woman who would always finagle a way to make something work. She could find the beauty in just about anything and had a wonderful laugh and gorgeous smile that could light up a room. She was preceded in death by her brother, Don Kamphaus and husband, Benjamin Nichols. And she is survived by her sister, four children, eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Sister: Betty Hater. Children: Marsha Scott, Bruce Nichols, Debbi Edwards and Penny Neace. Grandchildren: Bryan Scott, Casey Scott, Karen Bloomfield, Kristen Laudeman, Kevin Nichols, Jon Ryan Neace, Katie Uttich, Max Neace. Great Grandchildren: Landon, Maizey, Collin, Ethan, Lucy, Emma, George, Emma, Bennett and Lainey. Elaine’s wishes are to have memorial gifts made to the charity of your choice. The Maham Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements and visitation will be 11:00am to 1:00pm on Monday, August 29. Her final resting place will be beside her husband at the Williamsburg Cemetery.
